The Arizona Cardinals have signed free agent quarterback Derek Anderson according to multiple outlets.

The former Cleveland Browns part-time starter was released by Mike Holmgren’s crew after they acquired Seneca Wallace from the Seattle Seahawks.

Since Kurt Warner announced his retirement last month the team has been looking for viable options to compete with Matt Leinart for the starting job next season.

Although the team has publicly backed Leinart, the internal confidence in him is lacking according to multiple reports.

The signing means that San Diego Chargers backup Charlie Whitehurst will not be joining the squad.

He is expected to sign his free-agent tender offer on Wednesday according to ESPN’s John Clayton. As soon as he does, expect Chargers management to begin trade talks with the Seattle Seahawks on his behalf.
