Antrel Rolle
The Arizona Cardinals released safety Antrel Rolle on Thursday, just hours before the free agency period begins in the NFL.
The release is hardly a surprise. The veteran player was due to be paid a $4 million roster bonus on Friday, which the team did not want to pay.
In an interesting twist, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic is reporting that the team is hoping to re-sign him as a free agent. While that scenario is unlikely, stranger things have happened.
The best news for Rolle is that because he was released the NFL’s “Final Eight” rule does not apply to him. Thus, he is free to sign with any team he chooses… or the highest bidder.
He is reportedly looking for an $8 million per season contract.
