A meeting that could determine the fate of Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable is expected to take place shortly.
Cable and Raiders owner Al Davis, who were rumored to be sitting down earlier this week, will finally meet Thursday and possibly Friday according to Raiders executive John Herrera per Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times.
It was reported earlier in the week that Davis was prepared to dismiss Cable as the team’s coach.
While there continue to be strong rumors to that accord, Cable may have an out to save his job.
If the coach can convince Davis that he is willing to work with JaMarcus Russell he may be back with the Raiders next season.
Despite all of his on field struggles, Davis is still committed to the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft.

You can’t use the rookie excuse forever. He’s a third year veteran, cut your losses. This guy is a fat, lazy, overpaid,BUST.When they interviewed him after one of the games he threw 5 intercepts, he blamed everyone but himself. He said something along the lines of, guys weren’t where they were supposed to be,the play calling was bad,the sun was in my eyes…I don’t think it was my fault.Be a man, better yet be a leader, when your team loses, take all the blame even if you shouldn’t and when you win, give credit to your teammates.Sorry but this guy really gets me heated.
listen up. when you get draft Rookie QB’s, you must understand that in order to develop them, a team really needs a good coaching staff that can give them what they need.
In fairness to Russell’s struggles, he really hasn’t had that. WHether you like him or not, this should be agreed upon. ( leave the bias on the side when answering this to yourself).
2 coaches in 3 years.
1. Rookie coach to coach up a rookie QB ? this is really not the way you should begin with in this situation.
Lane Kiffin didn’t have the time to teach himself yet alone teach Russell how to play and what is expected
of him. Granted, a QB coach has this job but it is the head coach who positions the players.
2. Tom cabel has never had head coaching experience in the NFL and a limited stint while in college. Again,
Russell pretty much had up till this point learn on his own. Judging by Cables actions and comments, he
really didn’t want the job of mentoring a inexperienced QB. Disadvantage Russell.
How could anyone in their right mind not confess to these points and see that the ingredients for success were not in place for any rookie QB coming into a situation the Raiders had to offer.
If AD is still that commited to JaMeatloaf, let him put on another 20lbs. and play him at nosetackle. He is certainly too stupid to play QB. Put some mashed potatos on that plate JaMeatloaf!
