Bruce Gradkowski retained his role as the primary backup in Oakland
After missing eight months with a knee injury, Oakland Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski needed to come out and have a strong showing in order to keep the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
That’s exactly what he did.
Raiders coach Tom Cable confirmed that Gradkowski will enter the season as Jason Campbell’s primary backup despite the decent play of Kyle Boller this preseason.
“Even though he hasn’t been able to be out there with the [pectoral] injury and the groin injury, he has just worked his tail off,” Cable said of Gradkowski. “I think he went in prepared, you can talk about a guy getting mental reps or whatever, he just prepared himself so much for it.
“I think he went out there and proved that he is the backup quarterback.”
