Browns Release Derek Anderson, Cardinals Interested?

Derek Anderson

Derek Anderson

In a move that was hardly unexpected, the Cleveland Browns released quarterback Derek Anderson on Tuesday.

A member of the 2007 Pro Bowl squad, Anderson has seen his number drop off drastically in the past two seasons.

He then battled back and forth with Brady Quinn for the starting job and led the team to consecutive victories in their final two games of the 2009 season.

“I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years,” Browns head coach Eric Mangini said, per the team’s official website. “He did everything we asked of him and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future.”

Although this is purely speculation, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the same teams interested in David Carr to reach out to Anderson including the Arizona Cardinals.

As for the Browns quarterbacking situation next year it looks like Seneca Wallace will battle Brady Quinn.
