Browns QB Colt McCoy Misses Practice With Thumb Injury

McCoy won 45 games, the most as a college quarterback.

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy left in the third quarter of the Saturday’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers after banging his right thumb on teammate Casey Bender’s helmet.

The initial word was that X-rays were negative and it’s being categorized as a sprain.

He did not practice Monday and Coach Mangini listed him as day-to-day, but expects him to only miss a day or two.

McCoy was a record-setting quarterback at Texas who fell to the Browns in the third-round of the 2010 NFL draft in a somewhat surprising slide.

McCoy finished 5-of-10 for 25 yards and two interceptions before leaving with the injury. They followed the two he made in the Brown-White scrimmage last week.

“That’s something we’re going to have to continue to teach him,” said Coach Eric Mangini. “He did a couple of nice things with his feet, but all that’s going to be challenged when you throw two interceptions.”
