The San Francisco 49ers have competition for free agent quarterback David Carr who had dinner with coach Mike Singletary Friday night.

The Cleveland Browns are also interested in bringing Eli Manning’s backup according to Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat.

Also interested in Carr are the Arizona Cardinals who want to have somebody on their roster to challenge Matt Leinart during training camp.

Still, Carr could find his best chance at starting with the Cleveland franchise who is in desperate need of a quarterback.

The Browns are expected to release Derek Anderson before March 19 when he is due a $2 million roster bonus. The same fate could be in store for Brady Quinn.

It has been widely speculated that the Browns are interested in trading for quarterbacks as well.

Mike Holmgren is also thinking about bringing in Matt Hasselbeck’s backup with the Seattle Seahawks, Seneca Wallace.
