Cleveland Browns Executive Mike Holmgren is pleased with the manner in which star defensive tackle Shaun Rogers has applied himself in his rehabilitation from a serious ankle injury last year. Holmgren is also happy that Rogers has been present for all organized team activities or OTAs.
Unfortunately, Rogers’ arrest for gun possession at Cleveland Hopkins airport is likely to result in a suspension of some length.
According to reporter Michael Smith, Holmgren told the Cleveland Plain Dealer he expects some sort of suspension, and hopes to discuss the matter with the arbiter of league justice, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, at the upcoming league meetings in Dallas.
“I’m pleased with how he’s working here,” Holmgren said of Rogers. “I think he messed up and he knows it. But I like how he’s working. Hopefully, he won’t make the same mistake again.”
The Browns have been discussing the idea of moving Rogers to defensive end, and inserting backup Ahtyba Rubin in as the starting nose tackle. They think the defensive line would be better off with Rogers rushing the passer from the end position and Rubin tying up blockers at the nose.
