Broncos Place LB Dumervil on IR

Elivs Dumervil

Elvis Dumervil will miss the entire 2010 season

Denver Broncos’ pro bowl linebacker, and reigning NFL Sack King Elvis Dumervil was placed on the Injured Reserve list, officially ending his season, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

The news dashes what hopes the Broncos had for Dumervil returning this year.

The former Louisville Cardinal tore his pectoral muscle in a team drill Aug 5, and was expected to be out for most, if not all of the 2010 season.

After successful surgery however, it appeared that a mid-November return might be in the cards for Dumervil.

So much for appearances.

Dumervil discussed his situation with Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, and both agreed that it would be better to shut it down for the year.

“We mutually agreed this was the best thing to do,” Dumervil said. “I just felt like I still have a lot of my career in front of me, and I still have so much I’m going to accomplish that it would be better to make sure I get this right and not risk re-injuring by rushing back. I didn’t want to go back out there with this hanging over my head and playing hesitant. I want to thank all the fans for their kind words through all this. I also ask them to make sure they continue to support the team. I think we’re going to have a good team this year.”

Denver also lost running back LenDale White for the year with a torn Achilles tendon.
