Brett Favre retirement watch officially began with the Minnesota Vikings heartbreaking 28-31 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
The future first ballot Hall of Famer isn’t ready to make a decision on his career just yet, but doesn’t know exactly how long it will take for him to make up his mind.
“I wouldn’t say months, I know people are rolling their eyes or will roll their eyes,” Favre said after the game per Gregg Rosenthal of PFT. “In a situation like this, I really don’t want to make a decision right now based solely on what’s happened. Because I do know the year could have not gone any better aside from us not going to Miami.”
The vast majority of the Vikings locker room believes that the NFL legend will retire according FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer. But even they don’t know for sure… nor does Favre.
“I really enjoyed the guys. I just wonder if I can hold up, especially after a day like today, physically and mentally. That was pretty draining,” Favre said.
He’s right about that. He took more shots in Sunday’s game than we’ve seen in a long while. It’s a wonder that he only threw two interceptions.
“I am going to go home a couple days, and talk it over with the family,” he said of his decision process.
It sounded like he made up his mind in a pre-game interview with Pam Oliver, but he stopped short of revealing what that decision was.
“I’d love to win the Super Bowl, who wouldn’t,” Favre said of is dream scenario to exit the game. “But, I know I’m going out on top, one way or the other. I didn’t feel like I had anything to prove coming in. If there were doubters out there, maybe I served notice to them. My goal is to get to Miami and obviously that’s not going to happen.
“If it is [the end], no doubt I’m on top.”
He first need to make a decision on surgery. He surely won’t last that long for a whole season with a bothering ankle.
The guy is a jerk who is mocking the game and retirement and screwing over quarterbacks who actually go through training camp just to get benched in week one because mr. salt and pepper beard cant make up his damn mind.
the hell is your prob? the guy is a legend, i really hope he stays one more season
Oh for christ sakes, just retire right now and come back in week one. DOnt jerk us around with this “ohhh well I dont know, i think im going to wait a bit”.
