The latest on Brett Favre: he was ready to retire in January, but changed his mind just hours later.
“I can remember walking off that podium with (wife) Deanna and my family thinking, ‘I’m done,’ ” the Minnesota quarterback told Jon Saraceno of USA Today. “I mean, my heart … it was broken.”
Favre, of course, was talking about the team’s devastating loss to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC championship game last season.
But a funny thing happened on the flight home.
“By the time we landed, I am like, ‘I don’t think I can let these guys down.’ I know football is a business, but more than anything I felt like there was unfinished business,” he said. “All of a sudden, ‘Oh, man, as much as I don’t want to go through that again, I almost feel as if I owe these guys something.’ ”
And so speculation turns to whether or not he will return this season. All signs point to yes, but Favre continues to withhold a firm answer one way or the other.
“Hell, you gotta quit sometime,” the 40-year-old added. “Then again, maybe I will be doing this when I’m 50 years old, who knows?”
