The Denver Broncos released running back Justin Fargas and injured defensive back Tony Carter Monday, according to Lyndsay Jones of The Denver Post.
Fargas, signed by the Broncos during the second week of training camp had hoped to make the roster in Denver, but with injured running backs Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter, and LenDale White close to returning, Fargas became expendable.
The former Oakland Raider’s release appears to be good news for running back Lance Ball, who has played well at times during the preseason and now looks to be the favorite for the number three running back spot on the Denver depth chart.
Carter, on the practice squad for the majority of the 2009 season, was promoted to the active roster late in the year and played in two games for the Broncos. He missed all of last week’s practices with a hamstring injury and did not play versus Pittsburgh.
