The Philadelphia Eagles hired Bobby April to become their new special teams coordinator on Thursday.

While the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers were considered to be the front runners to land the former Buffalo Bills coach, it was Philadelphia who got their guy end.

April replaces Ted Daisher whose second stint with the team lasted only one season.

“Bobby April has proven himself as one of the top special teams coaches in this league,” Andy Reid said Thursday in a statement. “I have spoken with many coaches and players who have worked with and played under Bobby directly and they have had nothing but the highest regard for him in terms as a coach and as a person.”

In addition to Daisher, the axe also fell on strength and conditioning coach Mike Wolf and assistant strength and conditioning coach Jay Merlino.
