Bills RB Spiller to Start Again vs. Bengals

C.J. Spiller

Rookie C.J. Spiller will be the Bills starting running back in tonight's preseason meeting with the Bengals.

Bills rookie RB C.J. Spiller will get the start again in Saturday night’s game against Cincinnati, as he hopes to build on his monster debut vs. Indianapolis last week.

“I’m just going to continue to do what I’ve been doing, just go out there and try to execute,” Spiller said after practice on Thursday.

Spiller, the 9th overall pick in this year’s draft, rushed for 54 yards on only 10 carries, including a head-turning 31-yard TD dash in Buffalo’s 34-21 dismantling of the Colts.

“I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a lot of high expectations, just from last game,” Spiller acknowledged. “Everybody is going to want to see if I could do the same thing again, but the main thing I try to do is, I never go out there and try to press anything. I just let the game come to me, play within our offensive scheme and hopefully let the results take care of itself.

The former Clemons star has jumped up in the Bills depth chart after RBs Fred Jackson (broken hand) and Marshawn Lynch (high ankle sprain) suffered injuries in the team’s preseason opener. Neither Jackson or Lynch will play tonight, nor have they returned to practice (although Lynch was spotted participating in running drills last weekend,) but are expected to be healthy by Week 1.

Meanwhile, the Bengals announced that they would start ex-Bills WR Terrell Owens in his first game back in Buffalo since signing with Cincinnati in July. Bills S Donte Whitner playfully called out Owens and Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco via his Twitter and said he’s “looking forward” to seeing the duo in an interview earlier this week.
