Bill Cowher was on the list of candidates for the coaching job with the Buffalo Bills. However, he actually wound up recommending Chan Gailey for the job instead of taking it himself.
For Super Bowl winning coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t feel that the job was a good fit for him during an interview with Tim Graham of ESPN.com.
“I have tremendous respect for Buffalo,” Cowher said on Tuesday. “We had some talks. It didn’t really go that far. I couldn’t make the commitment. I have tremendous respect for [Bills owner] Ralph Wilson. I think it’s a tremendous fan base. I think it’s a golden opportunity for Chan Gailey.
“It just wasn’t the right time and place. I pretty much go with a gut feel when I make decisions like that. I think it through, but there was nothing specific. It’s a class organization.”
If there is NFL football to be played in 2011, Cowher has interest in coaching the New York Giants according to Jerome Bettis. Cowher indirectly denied those comments, however.
