The Baltimore Ravens signed fourth-round draft pick tight end Dennis Pitta on Monday.
He received a standard three-year contract with base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, and $490,000 in addition to an undisclosed signing bonus.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Thaddeus Gibson, who was drafted two picks after Pitta, received a bonus of $366,015.
Pitta will compete with rookie Ed Dickson for playing time behind Pro Bowl veteran Todd Heap.
Pitta left Brigham Young as their all-time leading receiver with 221 catches and ranks third with 2,901 receiving yards. During his senior year he had 62 receptions for 829 yards and eight touchdowns. He was also named to the All-Mountain West Conference First Team.
Pitta has run a 4.62 40-yard dash and has a 34.5 inch vertical leap which makes him an athletic target for Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
“Dennis is a real instinctive player,” Ravens director of college scouting Joe Hortiz said following the draft. “He’s got outstanding hands. He’s a real savvy route runner and just knows how to get open versus a zone.”
