There’s a quarterback change coming in New York, but it’s not for the Jets starting job.

Mark Brunnell is likely to sign with the Jets after July 22 according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, which could spell the end of Kellen Clemens career in the Big Apple.

He is barred from signing with the team prior to then due to the NFL’s “Final Eight” rule, which prevents teams who made it to the divisional round of the playoffs from signing more free agents than they have lost.

Brunell and the Jets had a good meeting in April and the belief within the organization is that it’s only a matter of time before he signs.

The soon to be 40-year-old should be willing to wait for the spot. The thought is that he will be a good mentor for starter Mark Sanchez.

Clemens, meanwhile, knows the writing is on the wall according to Cimini. He previously stated that he would like the opportunity to go elsewhere to have the chance to start.
