Arizona Cardinals to Release Matt Leinart, No Trade Takers

Matt Leinart

The Cardinals will cut Matt Leinart Saturday

The Arizona Cardinals will release Matt Leinart Saturday, ending his four-year career in the desert.

The team had been been shopping around the former USC quarterback in hopes of landing a trade, but received no significant offers and decided to just release him instead.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson will handle the starting duties for the Cardinals.

Ironically, Leniart’s play this preseason has been remarkably steady, but head coach Ken Whisenhunt stated earlier in the week that it’s more of a personality fit conflict for the 2006 first-round draft pick.

Leinart has 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in his NFL career.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report news of Leinart’s release.
