The San Francisco 49ers rid themselves of defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer Monday morning.
The team sent the AWOL 2008 first-round draft choice to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a sixth-round pick in next year’s draft according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
While the decision to trade within their own division may raise a few eyebrows, the fact is Balmer had become a major distraction in San Francisco and coach Mike Singletary had enough.
The Seahawks are thin on their defensive line so the addition of Balmier will benefit them.
Balmer was listed third on the 49ers depth chart at left defensive end behind Isaac Sopoaga and Ray McDonald — something he was unhappy about.
