49ers Sign Offensive Tackle Matt Kopa from Stanford

Matt Kopa

Matt Kopa won't be back at Stanford next season.

The San Francisco 49ers signed rookie free agent Matt Kopa to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Kopa, a 6-foot-6, 303 pound offensive tackle out of Stanford, had been seeking a somewhat unprecedented sixth year of NCAA eligibility, but dropped that quest in favor of pursuing an NFL career.

He began his collegiate career on the defensive line before switching to the other side of the ball as a junior.

He started the 2009 at right tackle, but injured his foot during the season opener and missed the remainder of the season.

He is a native of Elk Grove, California.
