The San Diego Chargers claimed cornerback Fred Bennett off waivers from the Houston Texans, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
To make room on the roster, the Chargers cut defensive lineman Ryon Bingham.
Bingham had missed over a week with a back injury, and even before getting hurt, was considered a longshot to win a spot on the roster.
Bennett found himself being the odd man out in a Texans secondary that has been crowded by the drafting of four corners over the past two years.
The fourth-year veteran practiced Wednesday, and could see playing time in San Diego’s final preseason game.
Bennett’s addition serves as a signal that the Chargers are not happy with the quality of their current stable of corners.
