Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn broke his silence about the strongly rumored coaching changes Monday night following the team’s 45-12 lopsided loss to the New York Giants.

After going over the laundry list of things that went wrong for the Redskins with reporters, questions turned to the mounting speculation that Zorn will be out at the end of the season.

“It’s not so much disappointing for my job because that will all take care of itself with all the speculation going on,” Zorn said of the first impression the team made with new general manager Bruce Allen. “It’s just frustrating for me as the head football coach to bring out our football team in that regard and not do well. I would have loved to have done well for Dan, for Bruce, for the entire ownership group.”

The questions then turned more direct.

“I’m trying not to even deal with (the rumors) because it’s right during the season,” Zorn said.
“So I’m trying to stay focused. I think I can do a pretty good job of taking a breath and moving on. That’s what I choose to do in those situations. I owe it to our team, our players and fans to keep concentrating on what’s at hand.”

A report surfaced last week that the coach and his assistants have known for two months that their time would be up at the end of the season.

All signs continue to point to Mike Shanahan taking over at season’s end. The former Broncos coach said Monday night that he would not be with the Dallas Cowboys in 2010, which was considered to be the only potential obstacle blocking him from coming to Washington.
