Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn and the majority of assistant coaches realized at least two months ago that they would not be back with the time in 2010 according to a team source who spoke with Jason Reid of the Washington Post.

Right around that time the Redskins stripped Zorn of his play calling duties and brought in Sherman Lewis to take over.

Lewis was brought in after former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan stated that he would not take the head coaching position at that time—stating there was nothing he could do for the team mid-season.

Shanahan’s name has since resurfaced as the likely candidate to take over for Zorn at season’s end.

Recently hired G.M. Bruce Allen stated that he will evaluate Zorn and crew for the remaining three weeks of the season before making a decision on their futures with the team.

Reports surfaced Saturday that the team already interviewed current defensive coordinator Greg Blache for the head coaching position, which satisfies the NFL’s Rooney Rule and fueled further speculation that Shanahan will be the next head coach.
