The Buffalo Bills have contacted former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis about becoming the team’s head coach next season. Sources report that he is interested in the job.

According to a report from John Murphy of WIVB-TV, the Bills contacted Weis using back channels, but are have yet to have a formal interview.

The 53-year old coach is familiar with the Bills organization from his time as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots where he faced them twice annually.

Weis was interviewed by the Bills in 2004 for their vacant head coaching position at the time, but decided on Mike Mularkey instead.

He compiled a record of 35 wins and 27 losses during his five seasons with the Irish, including two BCS bowl appearances.
