More Redskins Rumors: Shanahan, Not Gruden, in 2010

The rumors surrounding the head coach position for the Washington Redskins are flying fast and furious.

Local radio reports in Washington, DC initially speculated that Jon Gruden is the likely candidate to take over the Redskins in 2010 now that Bruce Allen is in town.

The reports went so far to state that the Gruden family were house shopping in northern Virginia.

Then, Thursday night a report from the Denver Post said that former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was the man for the job.

The report states that Shanahan was in talks with the Buffalo Bills last month about a potential front office position. In the talks Shanahan claimed that he and Bruce Allen came as a package deal.

Obviously things did not work out on that end.

This is not the first time Shanahan’s name has surfaced in Washington. Rumors swirled mid-season that he would replace current coach Jim Zorn.

At that time Shanahan said there was nothing he could do for the team in the middle of the season.

For the record, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson also believes it will be Shanahan and not Gruden that winds up with the team in 2010.

What is clear now is that almost nobody believes Zorn will remain with the team.
