Detroit Lions RB Kevin Smith suffered a probable ACL tear on Sunday, which will end his 2009 season.

An MRI is scheduled to confirm the diagnosis on Monday. However, the Lions aren’t giving a hint of optimism about his status.

Head coach Jim Schwartz referred to the knee injury as “significant” after the game on Sunday.

Smith gave his account of the injury to the Detroit News.

“I was just catching a flat pass and trying to cut back and somehow my leg got stuck in the ground,” Smith said. “My knee just buckled and I had extreme pain instantly. I gotta get tests tomorrow, but it doesn’t feel real good.”
