Lions QB Situation a Mystery with Stafford Injured

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz is keeping mum on who the starting quarterback will be Sunday if Matthew Stafford is unable to perform in San Francisco.

Schwartz yanked Daunte Culpepper in favor of Drew Stanton after the first half of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

When asked by reporters Monday his thoughts on the starting situation, Stanton remained humble.

“I learned a long time ago that a lot of stuff is out of my control,” said Stanton per the Detroit News. “I’ll be ready to start in San Francisco; whether or not I’m called on is another story.”

When asked his thoughts on Culpepper’s performance, Stanton offered a fair assessment.

“Daunte didn’t drop punts. Daunte didn’t miss field goals. Daunte didn’t jump offside,” said Stanton. “… But we also haven’t scored in about a month and we needed to (make a change.) Regardless of anything else — fair, unfair — the quarterback is judged with points and where they moved the team. We weren’t getting that done.”
