Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner speculated that the New York Jets could have purposely gone after his injured ankle Sunday.
Turner made his return to the Falcons lineup after missing the previous two games with an ankle sprain. However, he was knocked out of the game after Jim Leonhard of the Jets tackled him on his first carry.
The hit appeared to be low as Leonhard’s helmet made contact with Turner’s injured ankle, leaving him to wonder if the hit was intentional.
“I’m not in their minds so I’m not going to say what they are trying to do,” Turner said per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s what it looks like, but I’ve got to expect it. I was just hoping that my ankle was strong enough to take it.”
The blow was quite disappointing for Turner who was looking forward to playing in the game.
“I felt good,” he said. “I wanted to go out there and play the game, but an unfortunate situation happened.”
Now he is left to wonder whether his season is over.
