Clinton Portis Might Not Return to Redskins This Season

Clinton Portis

Washington Redskins star running back Clinton Portis might be done for the year.

Portis, who was a guest on ESPN 980′s John Thompson radio show in Washington, said, “I would love to be on the field trying to get out there and finish out the season. At the same time, I have to do what’s safe and what’s best. If I’m cleared and can get back out there for the last few games, I’m definitely going to try and get back out there. If I can’t, I’ll go into the off-season healthy and starting off fresh next year.”

These comments come despite the fact that Portis was given medical clearance by doctors to return to the field.

Portis had previously been ruled out for Sunday’s game at home against the New Orleans Saints.

One has to wonder if his feelings might be different if the Redskins’ record wasn’t a dismal 3-8.
