Charlie Weis became the NFL’s newest free agent this afternoon with the announcement that Notre Dame would not retain his services next season.
It has been previously speculated that Weis could land a gig as an offensive coordinator as soon as next season.
The Carolina Panthers, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots all have expressed interest.
There is also talk that Weis could end up in Cleveland with the Browns or even in Indianapolis with the Colts, though they are a long shot.
As for Weis’ replacement at Notre Dame, there was mention that Brian Billick could be interested in the job.
University director of athletics Jack Swarbrick and UND president, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. are in the process of hiring Weis’ replacement.
