The San Diego Chargers clinched a first round bye in the playoffs on Christmas night by virtue of their impressive 42-17 win over the Tennessee Titans.

For the Titans, it was hardly the Christmas present they were looking for. Their defeat officially ended their playoff hopes.

Philip Rivers was on fire, completing 21 of 27 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns.

His counterpart, Vince Young, was just eight of 21 passing for a dismal 89 yards. He was shut out of the end zone through the air, but did find pay dirt on the ground. He also threw two interceptions.

For the Chargers, LaDainian Tomlinson carried the ball 16 times for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

Darren Sproles made the most of his five carries, racking up 38 yards and scoring twice.

The Titans’ Chris Johnson continues to put up record numbers on the season. He carried the ball 21 times for 142 yards, including a 30 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Chargers will host the Washington Redskins next week to wrap up the regular season, while the Titans travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks in their season finale.
