In what would have undoubtedly become another fantastic chapter in the storied career of Brett Favre, the Minnesota Vikings came roaring back in the second half to tie the Chicago Bears and force overtime in the closing seconds only to lose the game.
Favre found Sidney Rice in the back of the end zone from six yards out on fourth and goal with just 16 seconds remaining to send the game into the fifth quarter.
The Bears won the toss in overtime and marched into field goal territory, only to have Robbie Gould miss a 45-yard game winner wide right.
They would get another chance a few series later after recovering an Adrian Peterson fumble at the Minnesota 39 yard line. Jay Cutler then hit Devin Aromashodu on the first play of the drive for a 39-yard game winning touchdown.
On the night, Cutler quieted his critics by turning in a 20 for 35 passing performance with 273 yards and four touchdowns, not to mention that pass in overtime.
Aromashodu had a monster game receiving, catching seven passes for 150 yards and of course the game winner.
Meanwhile, Favre was 26 of 40 passing on the night with 321 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Adrian Peterson continued to do his thing, racking up 94 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns.
Sidney Rice caught six passes for 56 yards including the big six-yard touchdown grab from Favre to force overtime.
Maybe it was the blocked Ryan Longwell extra point in the third quarter that ultimately cost the Vikings the game. Perhaps it was the fact that they had to overcome a 16-0 deficit at halftime. It could have even been the Adrian Peterson fumble that set up the game-winning touchdown for the Bears.
Whatever it was, the Vikings are now find themselves on the outside looking in for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
With a win over the Dallas Cowboys next week, the Philadelphia Eagles will earn the coveted No. 2 seed and first round bye in the playoffs.
