Shortly after wide receiver Johnny Knox was carted off the field with an ankle injury, Bears cornerback Charles Tillman was placed on a stretcher and taken to the locker room.

Tillman took a direct shot to the ribs from teammate Craig Steltz. Unfortunately for Tillman, Steltz’s helmet appeared to hit him in most exposed portion of his chest, along the side of the rib cage.

The two were both going to tackle Vikings receiver Visanthe Shiancoe at the time of the collision.

The training staff gave Tillman oxygen as he was taken off the field in seemingly excruciating pain.

A blanket was placed over his abdomen as he was wheeled away. The Bears are only saying that it is a “rib injury” at this point.

Update: Tillman apparently broke his ribs and will be out for the final game of the season. (more)
